Grosse Pointe Woods, city, Wayne County, southeastern Michigan, on the southwestern shore of Lake Saint Clair; incorporated as a city 1950. A fashionable residential community near Detroit, Grosse Pointe Woods is located in an area known as the Gold Coast, which includes several other communities. The area was settled in the early 18th century and subsequently it was developed as a summer resort. Population 18,886 (1980); 17,715 (1990); 17,080 (2000).
