Farmington Hills, city, Oakland County, southeastern Michigan, near Detroit; incorporated 1973. It is a residential center with some manufacturing industries. William Tyndale College (1945) and a community college are here. The name of the community refers to the adjacent city of Farmington (population, 1990, 10,132), which was named in the 1830s by Quaker settlers from Farmington, New York. Population 58,056 (1980); 74,652 (1990); 82,111 (2000).
