West Springfield, town, Hampden County, southwestern Massachusetts, on the Connecticut River, across from Springfield; settled in the mid-17th century, separated from Springfield and incorporated 1774. It is a residential and industrial community. Major manufactures include paper and paper products, electrical equipment, plastic items, and pesticides. In West Springfield is the Storrowton Village Museum, a re-created village of the late 18th-early 19th century, located on the grounds of the annual Eastern States Exposition. Population 27,042 (1980); 27,537 (1990); 27,537 (1996 estimate).
