Natick, town, Middlesex County, eastern Massachusetts, on Lake Cochituate, near Boston; incorporated 1781. It is a residential, commercial, and manufacturing center. Principal products include electronic equipment, precision instruments, processed food, computers, sporting goods, and electric tools. The community was established in 1651 by the American clergyman John Eliot as a settlement for Native Americans who had adopted the Christian faith. Whites settled here beginning in the early 18th century. Natick was a major shoe-producing center from the mid-19th to the early 20th century.
