Everett, industrial city, Middlesex County, eastern Massachusetts, on the Mystic and Malden rivers, near Boston; settled 1640s, separated from Malden 1870, incorporated as a city 1892. Manufactures include nonelectric machinery, electronic equipment, chemicals, paint, printed materials, fabricated metal, and processed food. The city is named for the orator and statesman Edward Everett.
