Presque Isle, city, Aroostook County, northeastern Maine, near the Aroostook River; incorporated as a city 1940. It is a summer resort and a commercial and distribution hub for the agricultural Aroostook valley. The University of Maine at Presque Isle (1903), a junior college, and a regional airport are here. The community, settled in the late 1820s, grew as a shipping and processing point for potatoes after the railroad arrived here in 1895.
