Biddeford, city, York County, southwestern Maine, on the Saco River, opposite the city of Saco; settled 1630, incorporated as a city 1855. Manufactures include blankets, textiles, electronic equipment, and machine tools. The University of New England (1943) and a community college are here. The city is named for Biddeford, England. Population 19,638 (1980); 20,710 (1990); 20,942 (2000).
