Cafe This Way 145 Mount Desert St. - 207.288.4483 $5.01 - $15 Bookshelves line the wall of the smallish dining area and the seating includes some furniture that looks like it belongs in a living room. The quirky coffeehouse look goes well with the inventive food. Omletes are the bulk of the breakfast menu and there are vegetarian options at both breakfast and dinner. Cuisine: American Recommended Dishes:Omletes Review:Worth a visit We visited this place once when the breakfast at our B&B wasn't to my wife's liking. If she had her way we would have been back everyday the rest of the week. Can't speak for the dinners but the breakfasts are certainly worth a visit.
George's 7 Stephen's Ln - 207.288.4505 $15.01 - $30 Cuisine: Mediterranean Review:Worth a repeat visit Tucked away behind a bank off Main St. and is a very pleasant dining experience. You can choose Prix Fixe ($37 or $40) or a la carte. Appetizers we tried were roasted tomato soup with a crab crostini, seared tuna with seaweed salad and pickled ginger with a soy sesame sauce and lamb lollipops (rib chops with ground lamb formed around them and bound with a bit of filo dough). Only tried one entree, lobster strudel served with fiddle heads and mushrooms (very good). Desserts were apple streusel (like a crisp) and a maple syrup creme brulee. Definitely will make a return visit. They also make a great martini.
Thirsty Whale, The 40 Cottage - 207.288.9335 Cuisine: Bar / Pub / Brewery Review:Place for Fun I had my first visit to this fine establishment. Everything was perfect from the "home cooked feel" food, the friendly locals and visitors and the wonderful live music. A must do while in Bar Harbor.
Geddy's Pub 19 Main Street - 207.288.5077 Cuisine: American Recommended Dishes: lobster pizza Antisocial Pizza Review:Good brick oven pizza Geddy's is a fun place with ton's of old signs from around Bar Harbor and elsewhere adorning the walls. Pizza is a specialty and is quite good. Review:Best Pizza
Review:Never disappointing Geddy's is one of our favorite places on the Island. Food is consistently good, with an almost overwhelming number of pizza choices, including white or wheat crust. Service is friendly and fast, and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. The window tables are great for people-watching, but, unfortunately, are located in the smoking section. Prices are reasonable.
Jordan Pond House Park Loop Road - 207.276.3316 $5.01 - $15 Inside Acadia National Park Jordan Pond House is famous for afternoon teas on the lawn overlooking Jordan Pond and for their popovers. In addition to tea they serve lunch and dinner including salads, sandwiches and full entrees which of course include lobster. Cuisine: American Recommended Dishes:Salad with maine shrimp; lobster roll Review:Not to be missed If you visit Bar Harbor you will eat here. It's pretty much unavoidable. But that's not a bad thing. The view is of course breath taking but the food is also quite good. The servers - college students from around the country - are friendly and willing to chat at least when it's not crazy busy. Prepare for a huge wait in the peak summer months - 2 hours is not uncommon.
Galyns 17 Main Street - 207.288.9706 $5.01 - $15 Cuisine: American Recommended Dishes:Fish special mussels, shrimp cocktail Review:Great food in a cozy, friendly place On a recent trip to Bar Harbor this was the only place we went back to. Fresh fish specials and lobster were wonderful. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient and the environment is warm and cozy. Review:Very disappointed diners 20 mins. before we got our drinks, 1hr. 30 mins before the bread got to the table. 2hrs. later appetizers found their way to the table. By the 3rd hour we got our meal. 1 party of 10 had sauteed lobster that was microwaved like chewing through a racquet ball. 25 dollar dish-no good. That was the birthday girls meal. Prime-Rib half inch thick 4 inches in dia. over priced. For 6.95 u can get prime rib @ Johnny's in Brewer (excellent) Fri. & Sat. My meal ... linguini w/ clam sauce. What clam sauce? 2 shrimp 2 scallops 12 dollars. 1 shot of absolut @ the bar 6$ outrageous. Fish dinner was ice cold. She didn't order sushi! That dish was taken back, and not charged for. Needless to say she went hungry. Shall i go on? Veggies weren't what we were told, substituded without our approval. That is only 4 dinners out of 10. 2nd day open. Should have stayed closed till they got organized. Michele, our waitress was fine. Oh, the best food on the table was the shrimp cocktail. They were huge,, but how can you mess that up? Mussels were good, same as last verse. Needless to say never again. All 10 of us live & dine on M.D.I.
