Prairie Village, city, Johnson County, northeastern Kansas, a residential suburb of Kansas City, at the Missouri line; settled 1858, incorporated 1951. A planned community, it was platted in 1941 by a private development firm and is named for its geographical location. Population 24,657 (1980); 23,186 (1990); 22,072 (2000).
