Cedar Falls, city, Black Hawk County, northeastern Iowa, at falls on the Cedar River (hence its name); settled 1845, incorporated 1853. It is a residential suburb of Waterloo and the seat of the University of Northern Iowa (1876). Manufactures include pumps, farm equipment, and processed food. A state park adjoins the city. During the mid-19th century, the town grew as a lumber- and grain-milling center. Population 36,322 (1980); 34,298 (1990); 36,145 (2000).
