Richmond, city, seat of Wayne County, eastern Indiana, on the East Fork of the Whitewater River, in a rich farming area; incorporated as a city 1840. Among its manufactures are kitchen appliances, tools and dies, pet food, metal products, compact disks, and wire and cable. The city also has a large commercial flower industry. Earlham College (1847), Indiana University East (1971), a junior college, an arboretum, and a history museum are here. Richmond was settled (1806) by Quakers from North Carolina and probably named for Richmond, England.
