New Albany, city, seat of Floyd County, southern Indiana, on the Ohio River, opposite Louisville Kentucky; incorporated as a city 1839. Formerly a steamboat-building center, it is now known for the manufacture of wood products, clothing, leather, and processed food. Indiana University Southeast (1941) is here. The community, founded in 1813, is named for Albany, New York.
