Niles, village, Cook County, northeastern Illinois, on the Chicago River, near the city of Chicago; settled around 1832, incorporated 1902. Manufactures include machinery, electronic equipment, and tools and dies. The village is the site of Niles College of Loyola University (1961). Also here is a half-size reproduction (1933) of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Population 30,363 (1980); 28,284 (1990); 30,068 (2000).
