Maywood, village, Cook County, northeastern Illinois, on the Des Plaines River; incorporated 1881. It is a residential center, located west of Chicago. Soft drinks and cans are produced here. The community was founded in 1869 by settlers from Vermont, one of whom named the village for his daughter May. Population 27,998 (1980); 27,139 (1990); 26,987 (2000).
