Lansing, village, Cook County, northeastern Illinois, on the Little Calumet River, a residential suburb of Chicago, near the Indiana line; incorporated 1893. Manufactures include packaging materials, paint, and processed food. Platted by John Lansing in 1865, the city grew as a farm and brickmaking center. Population 29,039 (1980); 28,086 (1990); 28,332 (2000).
