Glen Ellyn, village, DuPage County, northeastern Illinois, on the DuPage River, a residential suburb of Chicago; settled 1830s, incorporated 1892. It has a community college. In 1891 a developer created a lake here by damming a brook; he named it for his wife Ellen (Welsh, Ellyn), and the village, which had had several previous names, became known as Glen Ellyn. Population 23,649 (1980); 24,944 (1990); 26,999 (2000).
