Elk Grove Village, village, Cook and DuPage counties, northeastern Illinois, on Salt Creek, a suburb of Chicago; incorporated 1956. Industries, some located in a huge industrial park here, produce electronic and electrical equipment. Chicago-O'Hare International Airport is nearby. Originally settled in 1834, the village became a planned community in 1956, and its name is derived from the Potawatomi description of the area. Population 28,907 (1980); 33,429 (1990); 34,727 (2000).
