Dolton, village, Cook County, northeastern Illinois, a residential suburb of Chicago; settled about 1830, incorporated 1892. It has railroad yards and plants that manufacture aluminum and glass products. It was a farm center until Chicago's suburban expansion following World War II. The village is named for George Dolton, an early settler. Population 24,766 (1980); 23,930 (1990); 25,614 (2000).
