Kailua, community, Honolulu County, Hawaii, on the southeastern coast of Oahu Island, on Kailua Bay, adjacent to the community of Lanikai. It is a residential suburb of Honolulu and contains some manufacturing industries. Kailua Beach Park is here, and Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station and Bellows Air Force Base are nearby. The area formerly served as the residence of Oahu's monarchs. Population 35,812 (1980); 36,513 (2000).
