Bubbies Homemade Ice Cream
4211 Waialae Ave. Kahala Mall - 808.739.2822
Open daily.
Recommended Dishes: The ice cream pies-any one of them.
Review: New locations
The Kahala Mall location is gone, but the original location at the intersection of University and King is still up and running. They have also just added a new location in Koko Marina. Enjoy!
Review: I was born and raised in Hawaii but attend a university in Florida. I wish there was a Bubbies here. I try to explain to people how much I love Bubbies but they won't understand until they visit.

Big City Diner
3569 Waialae Avenue - 808.738.8855
Recommended Dishes: kimchee fried rice, salmon burger, grilled eggplant burger, salmon entree
Review: Have always enjoyed it
This is my favorite diner of all times. The food is delicious and better than most diner foods elsewhere. I have enjoyed their Salmon Sandwich (cooked to perfection, not dry), Grilled Eggplant Burger (very tasty), Salmon Entree (the sauce on the salmon was excellent and delicate, not overwhelming), Kimchee Fried Rice (heaps and heaps of delicious fried rice, definitely cannot finish in one sitting), and for late nights, try their saimin! My husband and I also enjoy their edamame appetizer. It's a little different from the way it's served at Japanese restaurants with a little touch of Korean spices and seasonings. All my other friends who have gone there also enjoy the food. And the service has always been excellent when we were there.
Hy's Steak House

Review: Honolulu's best steaks
Hy's is our favorite steakhouse. It is a great special night out place, where you can enjoy classic dishes with tableside service that so many restaurants have phased out. We love to order the caesar salad, although the portions are huge- we split 2 orders into four, and still had big portions. I also enjoyed the escargot, french onion soup, and whatever bite I managed to steal from my tablemates. Dinners come accompanied by their signature cheesy bread, always fresh, hot, and delicious. But the real star is the steak. Perfectly done to your specs, the steaks are juicy, and touched with a hint of smoky flavor, thanks to the kiawe grill. I had mine with shrimp(huge and perfectly cooked) and a touch or bearnaise. Delicious! The wine list is extensive, and the wait staff is knowledgeable and helpful in assisting your choice of wine, whether it be by the glass or bottle. But, save room for dessert. Again, prepared tableside, the choice was difficult, but we agreed on the cherries jubilee, prepared with the flash and expertise of our waiter. Again, we split 2 orders into four, and still struggled to finish the delicious syrupy cherries over first-rate vanilla ice cream. Find an excuse to have a special night out, and come for pure indulgence in delicious food.
Palomino Euro Bistro
66 Queen St. Harbor Court - 808.528.2400
Bar,Late night,Romantic,View
Parking: Available
Reservations: Recommended
Cuisine: Mediterranean
Recommended Dishes: crab-artichoke dip, sizzling mussels
Review: Palomino is a casual/chic eatery with a convenient downtown location overlooking the water. The menu offers many choices of appetizers, salads, gourmet pizzas, and entrees with a spotlight on the wood-burning oven. I am not a big fan of mussels, but I had the mussels on the half shell with sizzling garlic butter, and they were outstanding. The crab-artichoke dip is a must, and the thin crust pizzas are also a great starter. The pasta choices are good, I once had the grilled seafood ravioli, and was pleasantly surprised with a large saucer-sized ravioli, filled with identifiable chunks of seafood. It was very fresh and flavorful. I have also had the pasta with fresh tomato and garlic. The oven fired prawns are also a winner, as are the fresh, abundant salads. The chopped salad was refreshing. I started off with a bloody Mary, which must have stood a foot tall, garnished with a large shrimp, made spicy by request. I also enjoyed a selection from the wine by the glass menu, and they have a fresh sheet daily to spotlight the chef's recommendations. In fact, the menu rotates to reflect what is market-fresh, but many of the stand-bys are always available. Save room for the molten chocolate dessert, and if you simply don't have room, you can still enjoy the no calorie fortune presented at the end.
