LaGrange, city, seat of Troup County, western Georgia, on West Point Lake (part of the Chattahoochee River), near the Alabama line; incorporated 1828. Textiles, missile guidance systems, automotive parts, and plastics are the major manufactures. LaGrange College (1831) and numerous antebellum structures are here. The city also has a symphony orchestra, a ballet, and an art museum. President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Little White House is nearby, at Warm Springs. LaGrange was settled in 1827 after Georgia had acquired the area from the Creek tribe. It is named for the French estate of the marquis de Lafayette.
