Riviera Beach, city, Palm Beach County, southeastern Florida, on Lake Worth, adjoining West Palm Beach; laid out 1913, incorporated as a city 1959. The community, a tourist resort since the first hotel was built here in 1884, includes popular sand beaches on Singer Island. The busy Port of Palm Beach is in the city. Its name (Riviera until “Beach” was added in the early 1940s) is derived from that of the European Riviera, a scenic coastal strip along the Mediterranean. Population 26,489 (1980); 27,639 (1990); 29,884 (2000).
