Dunedin, city, Pinellas County, western Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico and Saint Joseph Sound; settled about 1855, incorporated as a city 1931. It is primarily a winter resort. The name of the community, chosen in 1882, is derived from Duneideann (“castle on the rock,” sometimes spelled Dunedin), the Gaelic name for Edinburgh.
