Boynton Beach, city, Palm Beach County, southeastern Florida, on the Intracoastal Waterway; incorporated 1920. It is primarily a residential and tourist center, with marinas, fishing piers, and beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. It also has some light manufacturing. The city is named for Nathan S. Boynton 1837-1911), who purchased the land and built a hotel in 1897. Population 35,624 (1980); 46,194 (1990); 60,389 (2000).
