Vernon, town, Tolland County, northern Connecticut, on the Hockanum River, near Hartford; settled 1726, separated from Bolton and incorporated 1808. Primarily a residential community, it has a mixed service and commercial base. Textile manufacturing, begun here in the late 1790s, declined in the 1950s. Rockville, which had been incorporated as a city in 1889, became part of Vernon in 1965.
