Southington, town, Hartford County, west central Connecticut, on the Quinnipiac River, near Waterbury; settled 1696, incorporated 1779. It is a manufacturing center producing tools and dies, motor-vehicle and aircraft parts, electrical equipment, and chemicals. The town includes the villages of Marion, Milldale, and Plantsville. Population 36,879 (1980);38,518 (1990).
