Mystic, unincorporated village in Stonington town, New London County, southeastern Connecticut, on the Mystic River at its mouth on Fishers Island Sound (a section of Long Island Sound); settled 1654. During the 19th century Mystic was a great whaling and shipbuilding center. It is now a major tourist attraction, featuring a re-created 19th-century waterfront village and a notable collection of historic ships, including the Charles W.
