Loveland, city, Larimer County, northern Colorado, near the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains; settled 1858, incorporated 1881. It is a commercial and manufacturing center and serves as a gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park and other tourist areas; products include electronic and water-purification equipment, photographic supplies, and printed materials. Home to many artists, Loveland has local foundries for sculptors and a public art collection on display throughout the city. The community was laid out in 1877, during the construction of the Colorado Central Railroad, and is named for William A. H. Loveland, the railroad's president. Population 30,244 (1980); 37,352 (1990); 50,608 (2000).
