Lakewood, city in Jefferson County, central Colorado. A community in the Denver metropolitan region at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills, the city is the site of the Denver Federal Center, a large complex of United States government office buildings. Educational institutions include Colorado Christian University (1914) and a community college.
Incorporated in 1969 as Jefferson City, it was renamed Lakewood the same year and has grown to become one of Colorado's largest cities.
