Lynwood, city, Los Angeles County, southwestern California, on the Los Angeles River; a suburb of Los Angeles; incorporated 1921. It is a residential and commercial city with some manufacturing, including the production of wood and metal items. Once part of a Spanish land grant (1810), the site of the present-day city was developed as a residential center beginning in 1913. The community experienced a period of rapid growth after World War II. Population 48,548 (1980); 61,945 (1990); 69,845 (2000).
