Toi On Sunset 7505 W Sunset Blvd - 213.874.8062 $5.01 - $15 This tiny Hollywood restaurant serves Thai food with a lot of atmosphere. The interior is dimly lit by small lamps, television sets silently blaring cartoons or bad movies, and the glowing green eyes of the dragon built from scrap metal. The walls are plastered with rock posters, strange sculptures, odd pictures, and other random stuff. There's even a five-foot paper-mache mask.\n\nSome tables are short -- you sit on the floor to eat. They also have booths and regular tables.\n\nToi attracts a trendy Hollywood crowd, and rumor has it that famous people eat here.\n\nIt can be difficult to get a table here on weekends, and it doesn't handle large groups well.\n\nToi also has a location on Wilshire Boulevard. Cuisine: Thai Recommended Dishes:mussels, prik khing
Moun Of Tunis 7445 1/2 W. Sunset Blvd. - 323.874.3333 $15.01 - $30 Authentic Moroccan and Tunisian food in an exotic atmosphere. Each table (3-4 people) chooses a meal from seven fixed-price feasts. A waiter pours water over your hands (you'll be eating without silverware) and brings each person a towel for use during the meal. Small cups of intensely sweet peppermint tea follow.\n\nYour feast (prepared by a native Tunisian) might include lamb with artichokes, lemon chicken or fish, or honey lamb. The most unusual items are the brik and the B'stilla. Brik is an egg dish, and B'stilla is made from flaky pastry, ground chicken, powdered sugar, and cinnamon.\n\nAt some point in the night, they'll turn up the background music, and a belly dancer will swirl into your room and dance for your entertainment.\n\nPrivate rooms are available for groups of up to fifty people, if you reserve in advance. Taiko Restaurant 11677 San Vicente Blvd # 302 - 310.207.7782 $5.01 - $15 This tiny restaurant serves authentic Japanese cuisine specializing in homemade soba noodles. Taiko offers a variety of noodle dishes as well as other Japanese favorites such as tempura, curry, and various sushi.<P>\nFor a great meal at a bargain price, Taiko offers combination meals for around 10 bucks. Makes it hard to believe that it's located, of all places, in a strip mall in the heart of Brentwood. But don't be fooled by the artsy decor that lends to the trendy atmosphere - this food is truly Japanese. Nyala Ethiopian Cuisine 1076 Fairfax Blvd. - 323.936.5918 $5.01 - $15 It's best to go to Nyala in a large group, since everything is served family style. A platter covered with a large, flat, pancake-like bread (injera) will be placed in the middle of your table, and your dishes will be spooned onto it. You tear off pieces of the bread and use it to pick up the food.\n\nThe food is very fresh, and the atmosphere is unusual, but warm. Vegetarians will have many choices here. Cuisine: African Review:Nyala is an excellent restaurant -- a great place to go with a group so you can try lots of dishes. The food is very fresh, unusual, and delicious. The bread (injera) is especially good. It's a sort of spongy sourdough pancake made from teff rather than wheat, and it adds a nice sour contrast to the food. Vegetarians won't go hungry here. There are a lot of vegetarian items on the menu, and they're all good. Trust me, you'll want to go back.
