La Puente, city, Los Angeles County, southwestern California, on Puente Creek, at the foot of the Puente Hills; incorporated as a city 1956. The city is a suburb of Los Angeles with some light industry. Major manufactures include air-conditioning equipment, chemicals, and processed food. Once part of La Puente Rancho, the community was laid out in 1841 and was originally the commercial center of a crop-farming and poultry- and cattle-raising area.
