La Mirada, city, Los Angeles County, southwestern California; incorporated 1960. It is chiefly residential, with some small-scale industry. Biola University (1908) and a performing arts theater are in the city. Thousands of olive trees were planted here in the late 1800s. In a major real estate transaction, the site of the city was sold for subdivision in 1953. The city's name, Spanish for “the view,” refers to the panoramic view from hills here.
