Arcadia, city, Los Angeles County, southwestern California, a suburb west of Los Angeles, at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains; incorporated 1903. Primarily residential, it has some light industry. The Santa Anita Park racetrack and the Los Angeles Arboretum are in Arcadia. The city was laid out in 1888 and named for the region of ancient Greece that was known for its pastoral character. Population 45,994 (1980); 48,290 (1990); 53,054 (2000).
