Alhambra, city, Los Angeles County, southwestern California, a suburb of Los Angeles; incorporated 1903. A gateway to the San Gabriel Valley, it is chiefly residential. The city's manufactures include paper products, fabricated metal products, and electronic equipment. The San Gabriel Mission, founded in 1771, is nearby. The city is named for the Alhambra, a Moorish fortress and palace in Spain. Population 64,615 (1980); 82,106 (1990); 85,804 (2000).
