Jacksonville, city, Pulaski County, central Arkansas; incorporated 1941. It is a residential and industrial suburb of Little Rock; major manufactures include metal and wood products, aluminum cookware, plastic bags, and power turbines. The nearby Little Rock Air Force Base is important to Jacksonville's economy. Settled by 1860, the community was named (1870) for Nicholas W. Jackson, who donated the site for a railroad station. Population 27,589 (1980); 29,101 (1990); 29,916 (2000).
