Sierra Vista, city, Cochise County, southeastern Arizona, on the slopes of the Huachuca Mountains (hence its name, Spanish, “mountain view”); incorporated as a city 1960. Its economy revolves around Fort Huachuca, a U.S. Army base founded in 1877 as an outpost to fight the Apache.
