Glendale, city in central Arizona, in Maricopa County and the Phoenix metropolitan region. The city has a diversified economy that includes aerospace, communications, precision metalworking, chemical and electronic manufacturing, and warehousing industries. The American Graduate School of International Management (1946), Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (1995), and a community college are in the city. Nearby is Luke Air Force Base.
Glendale was established in 1892 by the New England Land Company for the Church of the Brethren of Illinois, and incorporated in 1910. It developed as an important shipping point for agricultural products grown in the irrigated valley of the Salt River and still benefits from its location between the core of the Phoenix metropolitan region and West Coast markets.
