Prichard, city, Mobile County, southwestern Alabama, an industrial community near Mobile; incorporated 1925. Major manufactures are plastics, paper products, and chemicals. The area was settled by the French in the early 18th century. The site was reached by railroad in 1848 and grew as a shipping point with large railroad shops. The city is named for Cleveland Prichard, a local developer.
