Dothan, city, seat of Houston County and also in Dale County, southeastern Alabama; incorporated 1885. Situated in a peanut-growing region, the city has industries producing magnetic tapes, tires, and latex products. Troy State University Dothan (1955), a community college, and an opera house are here. A U.S. Army aviation center is nearby. The community, founded in 1885 at a rail junction, is named for the biblical city of Dothan.
