Auburn, city in Lee County, eastern Alabama. The seat of Auburn University (1856), it maintains a small varied industrial base. Chewacla State Park and Tuskegee National Forest are southwest of Auburn. The city was incorporated in 1839. Population 28,471 (1980); 33,830 (1990); 42,987 (2000).
