Prince Albert, city in central Saskatchewan, Canada, on the North Saskatchewan River. A gateway to northern Saskatchewan, Prince Albert serves as a distribution and supply center for forest products and mining and agriculture industries. It is also a health, education, and service center. Major manufactures include processed food, beverages, paper, wood products, and building materials. Tourism is also important to the city's economy. Prince Albert is the site of correctional facilities, including a federal penitentiary. The city is served by Prince Albert Airport.
Points of interest include the Prince Albert Historical Museum, the Evolution of Education Museum, the Northern Lights Casino, and the Diefenbaker House Museum, former home of 13th Canadian prime minister John Diefenbaker. Prince Albert National Park and a number of lakes are nearby. Annual events include the Canadian Challenge Sled Dog Race, held in winter; the Winter Festival, held in February; National Forestry Week, held in May; and the Prince Albert Exhibition, held in summer.
