Lloydminster, city in Canada, on the boundary of the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta (but belonging to the former), 260 km (160 mi) northwest of Saskatoon. It was founded in 1903 by a group of British colonists and was named after Reverend George E. Lloyd, their chaplain. Lloydminster consisted of two municipalities until 1930, and in 1958 it was given city status by special charter of the governments of Saskatchewan and Alberta. Population 17,283 (1991); 18,953 (1996).
