Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, town in Montmorency County, southern Québec Province, Canada, on the St. Lawrence River, near the city of Québec. Settled in the 1650s, it is a noted Roman Catholic pilgrimage center with a shrine honoring Saint Anne. The shrine, first built in 1658, has been damaged and rebuilt numerous times in the history of the town. The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré (completed 1963) contains religious relics and testimonies to the reported miraculous powers of prayer at the shrine. The religious attractions draw more than one million visitors annually. Population 3,162 (1986); 3,023 (1996).
