Saint-Laurent, in Île de Montréal County, southern Québec, Canada, on the Île de Montréal (Montréal Island). Saint-Laurent is a major industrial center and residential suburb, situated near the city of Montréal. Major manufactures include pharmaceuticals, metal and paper products, and aerospace, communications, and electronic equipment. The health, communications, and aerospace industries in particular experienced significant development at the end of the 20th century. Saint-Laurent is the site of two community colleges. One of the colleges, the CEGEP de Saint-Laurent, is home to the Saint-Laurent Art Museum, which contains French-Canadian artifacts. A section of Bois-de-Liesse Nature Park is located in the city.
European farmers founded Saint-Laurent in the late 17th century. It was established as a parish in the early 1700s and as a municipality in 1845. It incorporated as a city in 1893. At the end of the 20th century the city built a new recreation center and Technoparc, a research and development center.
