Repentigny, town in L'Assomption County, southern Québec, Canada, on the St. Lawrence River. It is a residential suburb of Montréal with some industry, including the manufacture of metal products, clothing, and machinery. Attractions include Saint-Laurent Park, where sporting and cultural events take place, and three churches, Église de la Purification, Église Notre-Dame-des-Champs, and Église du Précieux-Sang. Île Lebel Regional Park is nearby.
The community dates back to 1647, when Pierre Legardeur de Repentigny was granted a seigneury, or a large parcel of land; European settlement began in 1670. Repentigny incorporated in 1957; it grew slowly until Montréal's growth led to its own expansion beginning in the 1970s.
