Outremont, city, Île-de-Montréal County, southern Québec Province, Canada, on the Île-de-Montréal (Montréal Island); incorporated 1915. It is a suburb of Montréal and has some light industry. Established in the early 19th century as Côte-Sainte-Catherine, the settlement was renamed in 1875 for its location on the far (French outre) side of Mount Royal (French Mont Réal) in relation to Montréal. Population 23,080 (1986); 22,571 (1996).
