Granby, city in southern Québec, Canada, on the North Yamaska River. Located east of Montréal, Granby is a manufacturing, commercial, and transportation center; major manufactures are high-tech products, textiles, rubber, plastic goods, precision instruments, and processed food. Tourism is important to the economy. A community college is located in the city. Points of interest include the Granby Zoo, which is one of the largest zoos in Canada. It features the Amazoo, a re-creation of the Amazon rain forest. The Nature Interpretation Centre of Lac Boivin is a park that is home to many animal species. Granby offers many paths for cyclists and pedestrians to travel around the city and the surrounding area.
Granby was settled in the early 19th century. It incorporated as a town in 1859 and as a city in 1916. It began large-scale industrial development after World War II ended in 1945. Since then, the city has successfully diversified its economy.
