Dollard-des-Ormeaux, town, part of the Montréal Urban Community, on the Île de Montréal (Montréal Island), southern Québec, Canada. It is primarily a residential suburb of Montréal. Dollard-des-Ormeaux is home to a civic center that contains the town hall and an art gallery; an indoor market of specialty food shops; and Centennial Park, a year-round recreational area built around an artificial lake.
The town was originally part of the parish of Sainte-Geneviève, which was founded in the 1740s. Dollard-des-Ormeaux became a separate municipality in 1924. The community was named after Adam Dollard des Ormeaux, a French soldier in Canada who died in 1660 in a battle against the Iroquois. Dollard-des-Ormeaux incorporated in 1960. At the end of the 20th century it experienced growth, due to its easy access to nearby Montréal.
