Brossard, city in Laprairie County, southern Québec, Canada, on the St. Lawrence and Saint-Jacques rivers. It is primarily a residential suburb of Montréal, to which it is connected by a bridge. Manufactures include furniture, electronic products, and explosives. The construction industry is important to the economy. The city is home to an art gallery, a golf course, and Imax Les Ailes, where motion pictures are shown on an eight-story screen. Brossard also has numerous parks, green spaces, and bicycling paths along the St. Lawrence River.
Brossard, formerly known as Brosseau Station, was created in 1958 from an amalgamation and renamed after a prominent family. The city grew quickly after World War II (1939-1945) and incorporated in 1978, when it merged with two municipalities.
